Preparing for your visit
Please call us at 404-924-2000 to schedule your appointment. Your veterinarian will transmit medical records and test results to us prior to your arrival. If your veterinarian has taken xrays, please bring the xray films or disc with you to your appointment. You can complete our Client Form upon arrival, or visit the “For Pet Owners” section of our website www.sfvs.com to complete and submit the online form. Please do not feed your pet after 8:00pm the evening before his/her appointment. You should not withhold water until the morning of your pet’s appointment. If your pet is diabetic or has problems with hypoglycemia, please call for specific instructions. For your convenience, we honor most major credit cards and Care Credit. Payment is expected at time services are rendered.
What to expect the day of your visit
If your pet has been referred for an internal medicine or surgical evaluation, your visit will begin with the opportunity to meet with the specialist who will be caring for your pet. At that time, the doctor will ask you questions about your pet’s health history, perform an examination, and review previous test results. The doctor will then discuss recommended medical or surgical procedures and answer any questions you may have about the procedures or your pet’s condition. If you elect to pursue the procedures recommended by the doctor, your pet will be admitted to the hospital upon completion of your office visit. Patients admitted for medical procedures are typically discharged between 3 and 6 pm the same day as admission while patients admitted for surgical procedures may need to stay overnight. You will be contacted following completion of your pet’s medical or surgical procedure, at which time the doctor will discuss the outcome of the procedure and confirm a time that your pet can be discharged. Both you and your referring veterinarian will receive a written medical summary at the time of your pet’s discharge from the hospital. Patients referred to our radiologist for outpatient ultrasound, will be admitted for the procedure at their appointment time. Following the procedure, the radiologist will meet with you briefly to discuss the findings that will be reported to your veterinarian. If you wish to stay in the area for the day, we recommend that you consider spending your time in downtown Decatur – just a 5 minute drive away. Amenities include a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as parks and a public library. The Dekalb International Farmer’s Market and several antique stores are close by as well. Our receptionist can provide you with a Decatur map and retail brochures.
